Transformer Removal Services
Planned, Controlled Removal of High-Risk Electrical Plant
Electrical transformers are critical assets and their removal requires a higher level of planning, safety control and environmental management than most mechanical plants. KpH Environmental delivers transformer removal services for commercial and industrial sites across London and the South East, supporting electrical upgrades, redevelopment works and full site decommissioning.
Our role is to reduce associated risk, while ensuring transformer removal is carried out efficiently and in line with programme requirements.
Key Considerations Before Transformer Removal
Transformer removals are not a one-size-fits-all exercise. Each unit presents its own set of constraints, which must be understood before works begin. These may include oil containment requirements, weight and centre of gravity, access limitations, proximity to live electrical infrastructure and environmental controls.
Early assessment allows us to determine whether the transformer can be removed intact or requires partial dismantling, and whether specialist lifting, containment or isolation measures are required.
How We Manage Transformer Removal
We review transformer type, location, access, weight and environmental controls to establish a safe and compliant removal strategy.
Supplies are isolated, tested and formally verified to ensure the equipment is safe to work on.
Where applicable, oil-filled transformers are prepared with appropriate containment and spill prevention measures.
Cabling, busbars and fixings are disconnected, allowing the transformer to be safely released from its position.
The transformer is removed via agreed routes, using controlled handling or lifting techniques appropriate to the site.
Components and waste are removed from site, with materials managed in line with environmental regulations and project requirements.

Working Within Restricted Electrical Areas
Our teams are experienced in working within controlled electrical spaces, coordinating closely with electrical contractors and site management to ensure removal works are carried out without compromise to retained infrastructure.
Safety and Environmental Responsibility
Transformer removal carries increased safety and environmental risk, particularly where oil-filled equipment is present. All works are delivered under detailed risk assessments and method statements, with containment, permit systems and emergency procedures in place.
Environmental protection is treated as a priority throughout the removal process.
Why Appoint KpH Environmental?
Clients appoint KpH Environmental where transformer removal demands more than simple lifting and disposal. Our experience in high-risk plant removal allows us to operate confidently within complex electrical environments and support projects where precision and control matter.
Supporting Enabling and Decommissioning Works
Transformer removal is often a critical early stage within wider enabling or decommissioning programmes. We regularly support mechanical and electrical strip-outs, plant room clearance, HVAC decommissioning and heavy plant removal as part of integrated project scopes.

Discuss Your Transformer Removal Requirements
If you are planning electrical upgrades, redevelopment works or site decommissioning and require a specialist transformer removal contractor, our team would be pleased to provide technical input and discuss your requirements.
