Key Challenges
- Rooftop working environment above a live department store
- Significant plant weights requiring controlled dismantling
- Thick steel construction on larger boilers requiring alternative cutting methods
- Long travel distances for waste removal within the building
Logistics & Access
Due to the volume and weight of waste, logistics were critical to the success of the project. Scaffold gantries and hoists were installed to assist with heavy waste removal.
A dedicated night-shift waste removal team worked continuously throughout the programme to ensure progress was maintained and disruption to store operations was minimised. All waste movements were carried out with care to prevent damage to the building fabric.
Outcome:
The rooftop plant rooms were successfully stripped out, with all redundant plant and pipework safely removed. The project was delivered efficiently, with careful planning and execution ensuring minimal impact on the live retail environment. This project demonstrates KpH Environmental’s expertise in complex mechanical strip-out, heavy plant decommissioning and logistics-led removal projects within sensitive commercial buildings.
