Drum Screen Removal, Belaugh Grange Intake, Norwich

Client: Interserve
Project: Drum Screen Removal, Belaugh Grange Intake, Norwich

Brief Description:
Having carried out many successful projects with Interserve, KpH were awarded the project to remove pumps and screens at Belaugh Grange Intake. The project had its challenges with the surrounding working conditions and stopping the water entering the chamber.
Scope of Works:
  • The first step was to close the pen stock valves and pump out the contained water ready for the works to commence.
  • The water levels were continually rising in the interceptor due to the valves not closing properly. KpH set up two specialist 6-inch pumps to remove the water and allow for safe man entry into the pit.
  • The skilled team dismantled the pumps and parts of the screen wash utilising hot works ready to be lifted from site.
  • Due to the location of the pits, we had to get in a long reach hiab with a bigger lifting capacity to lift the larger sections out and into the adjacent field ready for fragmenting by hot works. The smaller pieces were lowered directly into the skips ready for disposal at a licensed waste facility.
  • The pits were jet washed and any remaining sludge debris removed, to avoid any foreign objects going into the new transfer pumps.
